Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD)

Automated Booking System

With the use of the Automated Booking System (ABS) that was jointly developed by the Los Angeles County Regional Identification System and DataWorks Plus, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) alone with an estimated 110,000 LASD bookings a year will save at least an estimated 36,000 hours a year off the current booking process time. The time estimate does not include the additional time saved by completely removing the redundant typing of the handwritten booking package into the County's Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and use of the system by outside agencies like the California Highway Patrol. LACRIS is extremely amazed and appreciative of DataWorks Plus' expediency in completing this project, which went from thought to full implementation in less than a year. The ABS is beneficial to all the law enforcement agencies in the County of Los Angeles because it speeds up the time it takes to complete a booking and returns that law enforcement officer back to the field, making our communities safer.

Previously, field officers would be forced to complete several forms in multiple books for each incident. Then, a booking officer would be responsible for inputting those handwritten forms into multiple systems. With the Automated Booking System, field officers can use their tablet or MDT in either day or night mode to collect information during an arrest creating a record with a Master ID number. Field and booking officers can use the Master ID number to edit or complete the record at any point, which is useful if the arresting officer only had time to fill in yellow required fields before the situation required immediate transportation. Booking officers can use the records to update other pertinent information such as Keep Separate orders. In this new workflow, booking officers are no longer forced to decipher questionable handwriting, saving time and increasing accuracy of records; records are available electronically as soon as they are created in the field and can be pulled on livescans in jail facilities. The search feature allows users to find any record in the database by booking number, Master ID number, file number, last name or first name. Users can print records if a paper copy is desired. Charges can be added to records through numerical or textual values. In the future, the application is capable of including fingerprints captured, mugshots taken, and imported driver's license information with records created by field officers or edited by booking officers. Field and booking officers alike can appreciate the saved time and increased accuracy of arrest information provided by this application.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED)

State Facial Recognition & Investigative Searches

DataWorks Plus was selected through a competitive bidding process to provide its Digital PhotoManager and FACE Plus systems to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) for facial recognition and investigative searching purposes. Under this contract, DataWorks Plus has provided a central server and created a new database to enroll millions of facial booking images from SLED’s statewide booking repository. Authorized users throughout the state can now securely upload probe images for rapid facial recognition searches via a web-based client within a standard web browser. The system’s industry-leading search algorithms ensure the highest accuracy possible with query results. The FACE Plus system also provides SLED with many investigative tools which maximize the effectiveness of facial recognition searches. Match results can be printed, saved, and emailed as necessary to help with ongoing investigations. Our Digital PhotoManager software also allows digital lineups of individuals to be created directly from facial recognition search results. These lineups can also be saved and printed, or used for secure witness viewings to positively identify suspects.
